Bosch - from small workshop to leading electrical group
Company founder Robert Bosch laid the foundations for today's leading global automotive supplier in 1886 when he opened a workshop for precision mechanics and electrical engineering in Stuttgart. Initially, he built electric bells and installed telephone systems. It was not until 1897 that the company began producing magneto ignitions for automobiles at its headquarters. At the time, the Stuttgart-based company was the only manufacturer of these ignition systems. Three years later, a high-voltage magneto ignition with spark plug followed, and in the years that followed, the first starter motors and lighting systems were also added to the company's portfolio. Even though technical components for combustion engines remain a central pillar of the company to this day, more and more business areas were added after the end of the Second World War. The automotive supplier not only develops circuit breakers, capacitors and spark plugs for your motorbike, but also household appliances, power tools and sensors. Today, the Group has almost 400,000 employees in 440 subsidiaries worldwide and generates an annual turnover of more than 71 billion euros.
